Who We Are

Preserving the NWT's Mining Heritage

The NWT Mining Heritage Society was formed in Yellowknife, NWT, in July 2002 and is governed by a volunteer board of directors. It is a registered non-profit society and has charitable status. The Society and its members are committed to preserving the mining and geological history of the Northwest Territories, Canada, and works towards its ultimate goal, the construction and establishment of a mining museum at the old Giant gold mine in Yellowknife.

The Society has a broad individual and corporate membership base through which it obtains funding and support for its projects. It also applies for government grants and funding. These projects include: production of mining heritage merchandise for fundraising efforts, collection and inventorying of artifacts and mining equipment, development of interpretive outdoor displays, production of mining heritage resource books and promotion of earth sciences, and renovations to its structures at Giant Mine, where the main mining museum and interpretive centre will be located.

The Society is supported by a broad membership of heritage advocates and local businesses. Please visit the 'Members/Sponsors" page for a listing of our corporate members, donors, sponsors, and key volunteers.
