June was full of mining related events as the NWT celebrated its annual Mining Week June 9-14. Our Annual General Meeting was held on June 11 and we had a very good turnout to the BBQ at Giant Mine. The weather cooperated with us and the bugs were very tame. Burgers and soda were enjoyed by all, and our members were given the opportunity for interpretive tours of our old mining machinery. Thanks for the support from everyone!

At the Mining Week BBQ on Saturday, June 14, we set up a small table for promotional purposes. We were also involved in the ever-popular gold panning events. Thanks to our members who helped organize the Mining Week events!

We did a little cleanup at the Giant site in preparation for the tourist season. Our flags were replaced and a large banner was fastened to the rec hall building proclaiming it as the future mining museum.

The society would like to thank the family and friends of Robert Pellerin for the donation of some old mine memorabilia. Robert was a safety trainer at Giant Mine from 1982-1990 and recently passed away. We would also like to thank the ongoing support of Bill Mitchell and his crews at Giant Mine for keeping their eyes out for interesting things!

Wayne Guy, our architect, has completed his construction plans for renovation of the rec hall. We will now be reviewing these documents and planning for future work. Initial renovations will probably consist of interior gutting and remedial repairs to the foundation of the building later this summer.
